Veterans foundation donates $3,500

Athens Daily Review - 12/22/2017

Dec. 22--MABANK -- Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation officials donated $3,500 from its annual Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake airshow and golf tournament with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Hope For The Warriors.

"When our foundation contacted the military to find out which organizations provided the highest percentage of funds to their outreach programs, Hope For The Warriors was high on the Charity Navigator listing," said Phil Becker, an Army veteran and Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation board member, in a press release. "We admire the approach that Gus has to seek out, assist and follow through on the needs of our post-9/11 service members and their families."

One of three benefiting nonprofits, Hope For The Warriors, is a national nonprofit "dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for veterans, service members and military families," the press release shows.

Since 2011, the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation has donated $22,000 to Hope For The Warriors and its programs. The primary fundraiser for the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation, the Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake airshow is entirely over water with civilian and military aircraft.

"The mission of the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation is to honor the courageous men and women who have served to protect our American freedoms and to be of direct benefit to the survivors of those warriors by providing financial support to agencies responsible for their care and nurture."

Celebrating 11 years of service, Hope For The Warriors helps veterans, service members and military families with a variety of programming including transition services, clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation and community development and engagement.

"When Hope For The Warriors started 11 years ago, we dreamed of organizations like the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation continuing to support our initiatives year after year," said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of the nonprofit organization. "Most importantly, the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation is truly impacting the well-being of the many veterans, service members and families who have bravely served and sacrificed for our country."
