Free fair admission for Veterans on 6/19

The Herald - 6/16/2018

CIRCLEVILLE- Pickaway County veterans wishing to attend this year's fair can do so for free on Tuesday, June 19.

Randy Smith, vice president of the fair board, said tickets would be free for any service member or veteran of the armed forces.

"Any veteran that wants to come to the fair can come for free that day," he said.

Smith said there will be a small flag raising ceremony followed by a keynote speaker at 10 a.m.

Margi Pettibone, executive director, said the Pickaway County Veterans Service office would have a table at the fair near the flagpole from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. that day near entrance to the Coliseum for veterans to stop by and see what services are available to them.

Todd Huffman, veterans service assistant director, said there will be other veterans service groups present, including MilVets and the VA mobile clinic.

"We'll have information for the veterans and have some goodies," he said. "We want to let veterans know we're here and what we offer. The fair is doing a great thing letting them in for free and celebrating veterans."

Huffman said Veterans Affairs can help any veteran whom they know about, and that having a presence at the fair is just another way of reaching out.

"We try to help them in any way we can," he said. "Outreach is probably the best way to do it. We'd like to see all the veterans we can so we get our information to them."

Pettibone said they try to attend as many events as throughout the year as possible.

"We try to be anywhere veterans are going to be," she said.
